The Jim Button Community Builder Fund

The Jim Button Community Builder Fund was launched by Jim’s friends and colleagues at Evans Hunt, Village Brewery and Dave Kelly Live, along with Jim’s family. It was established to honour Jim’s legacy and his lasting influence on all of us.

It will commemorate Jim’s life-long passion for bringing people together to celebrate what makes us special, either by supporting individuals who are committed to building community, or by supporting organizations and institutions dedicated to bringing us together.

The Jim Button Community Builder Fund will be administered by the Calgary Foundation and directed by a Fund Advisory Board selected by Jim’s family.

Our Focus

The Jim Button Community Fund was established to celebrate Jim’s amazing legacy by supporting those in the community that are making Calgary a better place for all. The fund will start with two specific initiatives:

Jim Button Community Grants

Awarded to a festival, event or producing organization that brings people together and inspires the community through live programming or community gatherings. Grants will be directed toward supporting a specific event open to the community.

Jim Button Unsung Hero Award

Established to recognize excellence and leadership among those who have demonstrated a commitment to building a strong Calgary community. The award would be directed to the organization or cause that best reflects the purpose and passion of the recipient.

About Jim

Above all else, Jim was a community builder.

Whether it was gathering friends and family, collaborating with colleagues or mentoring rising stars, Jim was always bringing people together and extracting the best out of them through his sheer enthusiasm and generosity of spirit.

He loved people, and people loved him.

Jim has always believed that if you bring good people together, great things will happen. From endeavours like Circle, Best of Calgary and Superjocks to Evans Hunt, Village Brewery or Dave Kelly Live, Jim has had a significant and lasting impact on the fabric of Calgary.

The Jim Button Community Builder Fund will continue to pay it forward. In Jim’s words,

“My philosophy has always been that if you just keep giving, and don’t really care what the get is, you get back twice as much as you could ever possibly have imagined.”
